Errew and Clogher

Errew Monastery cemetery prayer service which was held last Tuesday night – Brother Conal Thomas, Corrandulla, a native of Errew is pictured with his niece Fiona Fox and grandniece Áine Fox, Errew, who attended the commemorative service.

Errew Monastery Prayer Service

On Tuesday of last week Errew Monastery Prayer Service for the deceased members of the local community and the late Errew Franciscan Brothers took place in the village. The occasion was a special reflection on loved ones who have gone before and the late Errew Franciscan Brothers community.

Brother Conal Thomas led the service (and the singing) in the restored Monastery graveyard and spoke fondly of times gone by, local school days, the Errew ‘Deora Dé’ and community Mass’s held in the Monastery chapel. Sincere thanks has been extended to everyone who attended the service and took the time to come especially the visitors from Achill Heritage Centre – Ionad Oidhreachta Acla. Walking up the avenue was no doubt taking a trip down memory lane for many attending on the evening.

Br. Conal has extended his thanks to all and was delighted to meet both old and new friends. Thanks also to Áine Fox for the splendid music which was most fitting for the occasion, to Michael Hoban for preparing the avenue and getting it ready for the increase in footfall up to the Monastery and finally to all those who made sandwiches and cakes for the gathering. It was a great community effort thank you.

Special thanks is extended to the Veale family for once again welcoming this service to their home.

Errew Project Development

Errew Community Centre is restored and refurbished but exterior groundworks must continue. The roadside wall has to be rebuilt for future child safety and stability. Donations to help fully complete and further upgrade this community facility would be most gratefully received either by contacting a committee member or via the GoFundMe link; gf.me/u/zphxzc.
