The journey has begun. Cathal Kelly set off on day one of his epic 2,200km walk from Canterbury to Rome on Sunday last, June 16th. Cathal estimates that it should take him 117 days to reach his destination of the Vatican City, Rome. He wants to thank everyone for all the lovely wishes he received prior to his departure at the weekend.
You can follow Cathal’s journey on his blog www.kellyswalk2rome.ie or on all the usual social media channels.
Cathal is very grateful for all the support he is receiving as he raises funds and awareness for two special charities, Mayo Parkinson’s Association and Children’s Health Foundation Crumlin.

Over the weekend of June 8th and 9th at Swinford Golf Club, as the elements waged their own unpredictable battles (Saturday’s grace against Sunday’s gruelling wetness), the real contest unfolded on the greens with the Guinness Cup and the Ladies’ Front 9 Stableford, both graciously sponsored by AIB.
Daniel Irwin, a young golfer in the throes of his Junior Cert exams, emerged as the winner of the AIB Guinness Cup 2024 with a stellar score of 62. Andy Murphy, a fervent Manchester City fan, followed with a strong 69, while Peter Moore marked his return to golf this season with a commendable 73.
In the Ladies’ Front 9 Stableford, Margaret McNicholas played to her handicap, topping the leaderboard, closely followed by Margaret Haran and Adrienne Ring. Congratulations to all participants.
In a gripping Pierce Purcell showdown, Swinford Golf Club’s journey met a bittersweet conclusion against Enniscrone.
After an intense back-and-forth that left the teams deadlocked at three matches each, the drama heightened as they entered a play-off. On the second play-off hole, Swinford’s valiant effort narrowly fell short.
This defeat, though sharp, underscores the unpredictable allure of golf where fortunes hinge not just on skill, but the fickle fates of a few pivotal swings. Congratulations to our friends at Enniscrone.
Junior Golf continues at Swinford Golf Club on Saturday at 2pm. New members are always welcome to attend.
