Lord’s View One launches penthouses with cricket ground views
It’s a good summer for sport. Between the Euros, the Olympics, Wimbledon, the Tour de France and two cricket T20 World Cups, lovers of football, cricket, cycling et al should be well and truly satiated. And if you’re one of said sport fans, who also happens to be in the market for a luxury home, you’re going to want to hear this.
Developer LandCap has just launched a new penthouse collection in St John’s Wood, directly adjacent to Lord’s Cricket Ground. It’s not just proximity that Lord’s View One offers: the apartments actually overlook the ground, meaning that you can watch the cricket from your bed, living room or roof garden. Considering that up to 30,000 spectators flock to Lord’s for an international match, we’d say that’s a pretty big perk.
The four three-bedroom duplexes, each providing up to 2,368 square feet of internal and 1,044 square feet of external space, are built on top of the recently-refurbished 11-storey Lord’s View One apartment building on St John’s Wood Road.
As cool as the whole cricket thing is, it would be remiss to skip over the calibre of the homes themselves, which are pretty spectacular, boasting limestone façades with feature architectural detailing. Each penthouse has 2.9 metre ceiling heights and double-height glazing – when you’re not looking over the north elevation to the grounds, southerly views over Regent’s Park are also pretty special.
Interiors are by award-winning architectural practice Stiff + Trevillion, with two dressed by Albion Nord, a name which seems to be everywhere at the moment and which has been the creative force behind projects within the OWO on Whitehall, Chelsea Barracks, and Christian Candy’s 80 Holland Park.
The upper floor of each of the penthouses offers a dual or triple aspect reception room which houses a living area, an eight-to-ten-seat dining area, and a study area. Here, coffered ceilings and feature lighting are complemented by wood panelling, smoked and white oak parquet flooring, a marble fireplace, and a wall of bespoke joinery for books and objet d’art.
The kitchens feature a dramatic glass wall, as well as quartz-topped central islands with ribbed wood panelling. Meanwhile, the principal bedroom suite spans the entire depth of each penthouse, allowing for both sunrise and sunset views. This space also comprises a walk-in dressing room and a bathroom clad in bookmatched Calacatta Vagli marble.
In the penthouses dressed by Albion Nord, a subtle nod to cricket is woven in, felt in stitching details, contrast pining, turned timber legs and woven materials. These homes also boast a carefully-curated collection of bespoke design furniture paired with antiques to create a fusion of old and new.
Sliding glass doors from the reception rooms open out onto the private terraces, which are adorned with lush planting and entail a terraced area for loungers and seating, a cocktail bar overlooking the ground, and a built-in kitchen.
We can picture it now: inviting friends over on a hot summer’s day, firing up the barbeque, having drinks at the bar, and watching the cricket from above. In terms of your summer sporting set-up, it really could be worse.
