Louis given ‘priceless’ pair of trainers he won’t wear but ‘will treasure’
The Princess of Wales was given a pair of very special trainers for her third-born, Prince Louis, by one of tennis’ most iconic stars – but it’s unlikely the cheeky tot will ever wear them
The Princess of Wales was once presented with an absolutely “priceless” pair of trainers for her youngest son Prince Louis, which he may never have had the chance to wear.
Kate was given the Adidas Stan Smith shoes by none other than the tennis icon and 1972 Wimbledon champion, Stan Smith himself, during the 2019 Men’s Singles Final at Wimbledon.
While enjoying the match from the Royal Box, Kate was handed the sought-after trainers, which were not only signed by Stan Smith but also bore a special gold-inscribed message reading “To Louis” on their side – but this isn’t the only impressive gift the young royal has been given.
Royal expert Ingrid Seward has called these trainers “priceless,” and Royal author Phil Dampier echoed this sentiment in a chat with The Sun, suggesting that the sporty shoes are likely to remain pristine and unworn in the young prince’s closet.
Dampier remarked: “Little Louis is unlikely to wear them as they will be extremely valuable, especially as they were given to him. He won’t be aware of the history himself of course but when he becomes a teenager I’m sure he will treasure them.”
Given that the trainers were a gift back in 2019, it’s speculated by the Express that Prince Louis might have already outgrown them, reports OK!.
Highlighting the significance of the trainers, Royal commentator Phil pointed out that the Adidas Stan Smiths are considered an “iconic” design and were the height of fashion in the seventies, long before Nike arrived on the scene.
A Royal commentator has suggested that it’s only a matter of time before we see Prince Louis, and his siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince George, gracing the Royal Box at Wimbledon. “I’m sure he will meet Stan there one day,” he remarked.
The unique trainers are not the only gift Prince Louis has received as his uncle, Prince Harry, reportedly gifted him a first edition of A.A. Milne’s Winnie the Pooh for his christening.
As sweet as this gift is, royal author Phil Dampier doubts that Louis has actually pored over that particular copy, given its hefty price tag. Speaking with The Sun, he said: “It was lovely of Harry to give this precious book to Louis but I expect he has also got a cheaper version so he can read it properly. William and Kate wouldn’t want him thumbing his way through the expensive copy and ruining it by damaging some pages.”
