LSU women’s basketball to play in Aneesah Morrow’s hometown at Illinois-Chicago this year

Make it two homecoming games this upcoming season for LSU women’s basketball.

LSU announced Monday the team will make a trip to Chicago to face Illinois-Chicago on Dec. 19. Tigers star forward Aneesah Morrow is a Chicago native and will play in her hometown for the first time since she transferred to Baton Rouge from DePaul, which is also located in Chicago.

This is the second nonconference game Kim Mulkey and the Tigers have scheduled that will take a player back to their old stomping grounds as earlier this offseason, the program announced a neutral site game against instate foe Grambling State in Bossier City, where star sophomore guard Mikaylah Williams calls home, at the Brookshire Grocery Arena on Dec. 8.

LSU is up to three nonconference dates filled for the 2024-25 season. Along with the games at UIC and against Grambling, the Tigers will also take part in the Basketball Hall of Fame Women’s Showcase in Uncasville, Connecticut and will play Seton Hall at the Mohegan Sun Arena on Dec. 17.

UIC played in the WNIT last season and finished the year 18-16. The Flames return 11 players who received playing time last season under coach Ashleen Bracey, who was named the Co-Coach of the Year in the state by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association.

Led not only by Morrow and Williams but also star junior Flau’jae Johnson, LSU welcomes back three starters and a trio of others in point guard Last-Tear Poa, forward Sa’Myah Smith and center Aalyah Del Rosario, who earned plenty of playing time. The Tigers are coming off an Elite Eight run where it was eliminated by Iowa in Albany, New York.

With the addition of four transfer guards, expectations will once again be high for Mulkey and her team.
