‘Magic 20C’ possible this week in Dublin amid ‘promising’ future forecast
The “magic 20C” is possible this week in Dublin amid a “promising” future forecast for the upcoming few days.
Father’s Day in Dublin will be a warm one, with temperatures hitting highs of 18C, but some showers are still possible throughout the day. However, those showers could be the last we see for a few days – with a promising temperature peak hopefully coming on Thursday.
Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather said of the week ahead: “After today’s showers there will be very little rain up to Friday, and temperatures will slowly creep up, with the magic 20C possible in the South and East by Thursday with good sunny spells. Friday and weekend still uncertain, but risk of rain moving in.”

And, according to one other boffin, the good times may continue into next weekend. Weather Alerts Ireland posted: “The main European model is now forecasting warmer air for next weekend.
“The best bit of news is into the following week, warmer air could push up and stick around as high pressure begins to push north-east past Ireland, and this would allow warmer air to push up from the South. Still plenty of time for change but looks promising so fingers crossed.”
But Met Eireann’s day-by-day verdict for the week ahead is less promising at the moment. Here is their forecast for the week:
Monday: Cloudy with some patchy rain or drizzle at first. Becoming brighter through the day with a few sunny spells developing. Highest temperatures of 17 or 18 degrees in a light to moderate northerly wind.
Monday night: Partly cloudy with a few light showers moving into northern areas in a light to moderate north to northwest wind. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees.
Tuesday: Mostly cloudy to start with a few showers, mainly near northern coasts. Becoming drier and brighter through the day with sunny spells developing. Highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees in a light to moderate northerly wind.
Tuesday night: Dry with long clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees with light northerly winds.
Wednesday: Dry with sunny spells, turning hazy at times over the southern half of the country. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees in a light and variable breeze.
Wednesday night: Becoming cloudier overnight with rain moving into the northwest. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 12 degrees in a light southwest or variable breeze.
Thursday: Rain and cloud will spread across the country Thursday, turning heavy at times. Highest temperatures of 15 to 20 degrees in a light westerly breeze.
Further outlook: The end of the week looks to turn more unsettled as low-pressure systems feed in rain and showers, particularly over the north and west.
