Major driving test shake-up for Irish motorists

The Road Safety Authority have updated some important information.

The theory test revision material has been updated for 2024.

Candidates taking the test before July 1 are now required to use the June 2019 edition of the Driver Theory Test Questions.

However, candidates taking the test after July 1 are required to use the May 2024 edition of the Driver Theory Test Questions.

The new 2024 revision material aims to enhance candidates experience with improved images and more relevant questions surrounding road safety and legislation.

For car drivers, the exam still consists of 40 questions and candidates are required to get 35 correct in order to pass.

The Driver Theory Test for buses and trucks has also been updated for 2024 with more relevant road safety and legislation questions, but it still consists of 100 questions and the pass mark is 74.

The Road Safety Authority Driver Theory Test have made the announcement ahead of the expected increase in people taking the exam over the summer months.

On their website they stated: “Please be aware that there are currently a number of unlicensed and unofficial revision material apps and websites on the market.

“These apps and websites are not licensed by the RSA and do not contain the official DTT questions.”

Candidates studying for the exam can get the official RSA Driver Theory Test on the Apple App Store or on Google Play for €14.99.
