Major driving test shake-up for motorists as big update to go live in weeks

A MAJOR driving test shake-up is on the way for Irish motorists as an updated exam will go live in a few weeks.

The official theory test revision material has now been updated for 2024.

The theory test has now been changed for 2024

Irish motorists, who will be taking their theory test, have been given updated revision material for this year.

Candidates taking the test before July 1 are now required to use the June 2019 edition of the Driver Theory Test Questions.

However, candidates taking the test after July 1 are required to use the May 2024 edition of the Driver Theory Test Questions.

The new 2024 revision material aims to enhance candidates experience with improved images and more relevant questions surrounding road safety and legislation.

For car drivers, the exam still consists of 40 questions and candidates are required to get 35 correct in order to pass.

The Driver Theory Test for buses and trucks has also been updated for 2024 with more relevant road safety and legislation questions, but it still consists of 100 questions and the pass mark is 74.

The Road Safety Authority Driver Theory Test have made the announcement ahead of the expected increase in people taking the exam over the summer months.

They are the only supplier of the official RSA revision materials for the driver theory test and the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence.

On the RSA Theory Test website it warns drivers to be aware of unofficial revision material apps and websites.

It reads: “Please be aware that there are currently a number of unlicensed and unofficial revision material apps and websites on the market.

Five signs you are a bad driver without even realising

“These apps and websites are not licensed by the RSA and do not contain the official DTT questions.”

Candidates studying for the exam can get the official RSA Driver Theory Test on the Apple App Store or on Google Play for €14.99.

They are also given a choice on what revision material they need, depending on if they are taking the exam before or after July 1 2024.

However, it will not automatically update for candidates who currently have the app, and they are now required to download the new version which contains the revision material for 2024.

All online subscriptions for the RSA Driver Theory test will automatically update to the new revision material on June 24.

Candidates who are testing between the 25 to 29 of June will not be able to access the old revision material on their subscription.
