Major €4m overhaul of Kildare plant gets green light
Planning permission has been granted for an estimated €4m overhaul of the Minch Malt plant in Athy.
The almost 3,000 square metre development will be on the existing 8 hectare site on Upper William Street.
Being demolished is a canteen building and two barley storage silos, according to the Building Information Ireland database.
Elements of the new Malting Plant being constructed include a germination vessel, grain elevators, conveyor gantries and barley intake silos.
Also being built will be a stores building and a modular staff facilities building for offices and a canteen.
There will be 14 temporary car parking spaces.
Also in the plans are new wastewater treatment buildings with processing tanks and equipment.
Other works include drainage facilities and pedestrian walkways.
