Major Luas disruption as operators slam ‘reckless motorist behaviour’
There was major disruption on the Luas this evening after a car was embedded on the line.
A crane had to be called to remove the car, which became embedded at a cross over section, on the Red line, close to Blackhorse Stop. Overhead power had to be cut to allow the crane lift the car, leading to a suspension of services.
Limited services are now resuming although a number of stops are still not being served. Luas operators Transdev said: “Crane saved the night following reckless motorist behaviour.

“A reckless motorist embedded their car on the Luas track, at a cross over section, on the Luas Red Line, close to Blackhorse Stop. Three tow truck companies, Luas technicians and An Garda Síochána are still on site.
“Following inspection the car had to be removed by a crane and the overhead power in this area had to be de-energized for a period of time. The crane has now successfully lifted the car and we are regulating service. Precise service updates will follow shortly.
“As a result of this incident please be advised a limited number of trams are operating as follows:
- There is no service between The Point and Connolly.
- There is a very limited service between Connolly Luas Stop and Heuston Luas Stop.
- There is no service between Heuston and Tallaght Saggart
“Luas tickets are valid on Dublin Bus for the duration of this disruption. We sincerely apologise for this inconvenience. All Green Line services are operating normally.”
