Major M50 crash blocking multiple lanes as delays build

Good evening and welcome to Dublin Live’s traffic blog in partnership with Dublin City FM.

Emergency services are at the scene of a major crash on the M50 northbound after Junction 4 Ballymun. The crash is blocking lanes one, two, and three.




Only the right lane is open. There are delays of 15 minutes from Junction 5 Finglas. A Garda spokesman told Dublin Live: “Gardaí and emergency services are currently attending a traffic collision that occurred northbound on the M50 in the Ballymun area.”

There is a broken down bus on O’Connell Street inbound (southbound). It’s blocking the left lane at the lights for Abbey Street. Take care and leave space for cyclists.

Finglas crash update

All lanes are now open on Finglas Road, as the collision at Ballyboggan Road has been cleared.

Traffic updates

  • The broken-down bus has been removed from O’Connell Street.

  • Finglas Road outbound remains blocked at the junction with Ballyboggan Road. Emergency services are directing traffic around the traffic islands. Long delays of 30 minutes from the Quays.

  • All lanes are now open on the M50 northbound, as the collision at Junction 4 Ballymun has been cleared.

  • Severe northbound delays of 130 minutes remain from Junction 13 Dundrum.

  • Long southbound delays of 40 minutes remain from Northern Cross.

  • The R108 South Parallel Road has long delays of 30 minutes due to people trying to avoid the M50.

Crash on the M1

There is a collision on the M1 southbound after Junction 2 Dublin Airport. It’s blocking lane 2 of 4 (for the M50). Delays building.

Lorry fire on the M50

There are reports of a lorry on fire on the M50 southbound at Junction 9 Red Cow. The vehicle is off the road and not posing a danger to traffic.

Traffic update

There is a collision on Finglas Road outbound. The road is blocked in the dip approaching Ballyboggan Road.

The news so far

There is a collision on the M50 northbound after J4 (Ballymun). It’s blocking lanes 1, 2 and 3, with only the right lane open. Northbound delays of 15 minutes from Junction 5 Finglas. Southbound delays of 5 minutes due to people slowing down to look.

There is a broken down bus on O’Connell Street inbound (southbound). It’s blocking the left lane at the lights for Abbey Street.

A collision has been cleared from Dorset Street Upper. Delays of 10 minutes remain from Parnell Square.
