The warning comes after 3.5million passengers went through Ireland’s two busiest airports in June as the hectic summer season has started.

DAA published stats on the number of passengers that went through Cork Airport and Dublin Airport during the first month of the summer season.

308,000 passengers were recorded that went through Cork Airport while 3.2million passengers went through Dublin Airport.

The whopping numbers of passengers recorded going through the two busiest airports were mainly caused by thousands of tourists and concertgoers who were visiting Ireland and seeing the top acts perform.

Many events took place in the capital during June as many top acts performed, including the global superstars Taylor Swift, Bruce Springsteen and Pink.

The busiest day of the month at Cork Airport was Friday, June 21, and Dublin Airport’s busiest day of the month was Sunday, June 23 – just under 120,000 passengers moved through the terminals.

More busy months to come

Kenny Jacobs, DAA CEO, said: “June was a big month at both Cork and Dublin airports as we welcomed hundreds of thousands of business and leisure passengers into and out of Ireland.

“Big events such as concerts are now a big draw for tourists into Ireland and we’ve had no shortage of those all-around Ireland over the past month.

“The terminals at Dublin Airport were very busy with American and Asian tourists coming to Ireland for summer holidays and golf and hiking trips.

“This inward tourism is hugely valuable for the whole of Ireland as they arrive into Dublin Airport before heading off to visit and spend money in all 32 counties.

“Every day in June saw more than 100,000 passengers travelling through Dublin Airport and that trend is set to continue through July and August with demand to fly in and out of Ireland remaining extremely high.

“The team at Dublin Airport, including our brilliant security officers who got 96% of all departing passengers through security screening in under 20 minutes in June, are knocking it out of the airfield this summer by providing passengers with a very smooth and enjoyable experience.”

Cork Airport’s new summer services

He added: “June was equally as busy at Cork Airport, with over 308,000 passengers travelling to and from the busiest airport serving the South of Ireland.

“The month saw two new Ryanair summer services starting up to Rhodes and Zadar, with both performing extremely well so far.

“Traffic to and from France was considerably higher than last year, with 32% more passengers travelling on services between Cork and France, aided by the increased capacity on the Air France service between Cork and Paris Charles de Gaulle.

“Cork Airport is providing a gateway for tourists from mainland Europe to fly into the south of Ireland and I’m delighted that Lufthansa will operate larger A319 aircraft on their Frankfurt service in July.

“Throughout the month, Cork passengers enjoyed a very efficient airport experience with an average of five-minute security queue times across the month.”
