Major travel chaos after car ’embedded’ on Luas track by ‘reckless motorist’
DUBLIN city has been hit with major travel disruption after a vehicle drove onto Luas tracks and got stuck.
The travel chaos was caused on the Luas Red Line by a “reckless motorist”, resulting in limited services in the south of the capital.
The shocking incident occurred at around 8:30pm at the Blackhorse stop, near Inchicore.
Three tow truck companies and a crane have been brought in to help remove the vehicle, which became “embedded” on the tracks, resulting in operations along the line being mostly suspended.
As a result of the incident, the Luas Red Line is currently operating a limited service between Heuston Station and Connolly Station – there are no services running between Connolly and The Point.
Additionally, there are currently no services available from Saggart, Tallaght, or Heuston, including the Luas Park and Ride at the Red Cow.
The incident is expected to have a major impact on thousands of commuters who are attending concerts, matches and events in the capital.
A spokesperson for Luas said: “A reckless motorist has embedded their car on the Luas track at Blackhorse.
“Three tow truck companies, Luas technicians and An Garda Síochána are on site.
“Following inspection the car will have to be removed by a crane.”
For people who are affected by the limited service, Luas tickets are valid on the Dublin Bus for the duration of the travel disruption.
Meanwhile, Dublin Airport is set to open a new barber outlet for the first time in 30 years – and holidaymakers can now get a last-minute haircut ahead of their travels.
The Grafton Barber shop will officially open next week in Terminal 1 Arrivals with actor James Nesbitt doing the honours.
New barber outlet
Dublin Airport bosses took to X, formerly Twitter, to announce the special arrival.
