Man (20s) arrested as €144k worth of cannabis seized in Galway

A man has been arrested in Galway after gardaí seized nearly €144,000 worth of cannabis.

The joint operation between gardaí and Revenue discovered the approximately 7.1kgs of the drug on Friday.

The seizure was made as a result of an intelligence-led operation involving Revenue’s Customs Service, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) and the Galway Divisional Drugs Unit.

The man, aged in his 20s, was arrested by An Garda Síochána and is currently detained at a Garda Station in County Galway under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.

The seized cannabis is now subject to examination by Forensic Science Ireland.

Investigations are ongoing, according to gardai.
