Man, 40s, tragically dies after single vehicle collision along motorway
A man has tragically lost his life following a single-vehicle collision along a stretch of motorway in Clare on Monday afternoon.
Gardaí and emergency services, including paramedics attached to the National Ambulance Service, were rushed to the scene of the crash near Ennis at around 12:40pm.
It is understood that the motorist struck a barrier on the side of the N85 Ennis Bypass in Clare just before lunchtime following what authorities have described as a “medical emergency”.

The man, who was aged in his 40s, was rushed to University Hospital Limerick where he later passed away. The road, which was closed for a period following the collision with local diversions in place, has since reopened.
A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: “Gardaí responded to reports of a single-vehicle collision on the N85 Ennis Bypass, County Clare at approximately 12:40pm this afternoon Monday, 3 June”.
They added: “The male driver of the vehicle (aged in his 40s) was taken to University Hospital Limerick where he later passed away. The Coroner has been notified. The N85 Ennis Bypass has since reopened to traffic.”
Meanwhile, Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed an early morning collision in Mayo on Monday.
At around 4am Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the single-vehicle collision near Swinford in Mayo that has left a young man fighting for his life.
Five male teenagers were taken by ambulance to Mayo University Hospital, where one of them is reported to be in critical condition after the car they were travelling in crashed during the early hours of the morning.
The incident occurred near the exit for Swinford at Deerpark on the N5, which is the main route to Dublin for most of County Mayo. The road is currently closed pending the completion of a forensic examination of the scene. Local diversions are in place.
