Man, 50s, dies after car crashes into ditch in Westmeath

A man aged in his 50s has died following a single-car crash in Co Westmeath.

At around 6.40pm, the vehicle hit a roadside ditch on the R395 at Teevrevagh in Castlepollard.

The man, who was the only occupant in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body remains at the scene.

The R395 at Teevrevagh, Castlepollard is currently closed with local diversions in place and a technical examination will be conducted tonight.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the Teevrevagh area have been asked to make this footage available to gardaí.
