Man seriously hurt in Monroe Co. crash between golf cart & SUV

A Monroe County man was seriously injured after he drove his golf cart into an intersection and was struck by a car over the weekend, police said.

Officials said the crash happened at about 8:50 p.m. Saturday on South Dixie Highway at East Stein Road in La Salle Township.

According to a preliminary investigation, a 65-year-old man was driving a green E-Z-Go golf cart west on East Stein at South Dixie Highway when he failed to yield the right of way, proceeded into the intersection and was struck by a blue 2011 Ford Escape traveling north on the highway.

Police identified the golf cart’s driver as Bart Flory of La Salle. They identified the driver of the Escape as Sarah Straub, 39, of LaSalle Township.

Investigators said during the crash, Flory was ejected from the cart and suffered serious injuries. He was taken to a hospital in Toledo where he is listed in serious condition.

They said the SUV’s driver was wearing her safety belt, her car’s air bags did not deploy and she was not injured in the crash.

Police also said it appears alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about the crash should call Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy Austin Graham at (734) 240-7758 or submit anonymous tips at Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) SPEAK-UP.
