Manchester United have been told their first signing of the summer transfer window is “inevitable”.

Erik ten Hag is seeking to improve his Man Utd squad in a number of areas this summer, with a centre-forward, a central midfielder, a centre-back and a full-back all earmarked to arrive.

Rene Hake is poised to arrive from Eredivisie outfit Go Ahead Eagles, with the local paper indicating that it is simply a matter of time before the deal is agreed.

It reports: “Our sources have indicated that Hake’s arrival is inevitable, and reports in the Netherlands that say players have been told of his exit seems to point in the same direction, despite the formalities not yet being carried out.

“There is a possibility that two managers who coached Eredivisie teams – Hake and Ruud van Nistelrooy – join Ten Hag’s backroom staff, in what is an interesting move. What that says about the Dutch league itself is for others to conclude but United fans will hope too many cooks don’t spoil the already-lukewarm broth.”

It is reported that the former Ajax boss is “delighted” with the agreement, which he had wanted in place before the start of the season.
