A Clare man who admitted his part in trashing a hotel bedroom in Cork during a drunken night was jailed for eight months.
Cathal McNamara, aged 33, of Larch Hill, Ennis, Co Clare, was in Cork in the course of his work on a tarmacking contract when he got involved in this hotel room disturbance. Sergeant Dave Delea said it occurred on the night of October 4, 2023.
“After midnight he stole two bottles of Southern Comfort worth €60 from a delivery area at the rear of Vienna Woods Hotel, Glanmire, and brought them to a room where he and a guest were staying and they drank them,” Sgt Delea said.
It was further stated that later in the morning, he broke a Phillips TV worth €900, an armchair worth €750 and two wall-mounted lights worth €250 each. The accused had 83 previous convictions including seven for causing criminal damage and 31 for theft.
He also had 12 for being drunk and a danger and 10 for engaging in threatening and abusive behaviour.
Killian McCarthy, defending, said McNamara and two of his workmates went drinking that night and ended up back in his hotel room where matters got out of hand to the extent that damage was caused.
Mr McCarthy said that while two others were present in the room, McNamara accepted responsibility for causing the damage.
Judge Dorgan at Cork District Court jailed the Clare man for eight months for causing criminal damage and a three-month concurrent sentence for stealing the alcohol.
