Man who court heard called boy, 2, ‘sexy’ moans he’s ‘barred from barbers’

This man says he’s been barred from his local barbers after a court heard he grabbed a two year old boy and called him “sexy.”

Last week Aivaras Dvaranauskas (37) was handed a suspended sentence after he was convicted of threatening and abusive behaviour in an incident in which a mother said he approached her two year-old son on the street, forcibly grabbed his hand and said “Hi sexy boy”.

But when confronted by The Irish Mirror this week, Aivaras, who works in a local car business in Fermoy, insisted that the child’s mother may have been mistaken in what she heard – and that as a result he’s now barred from his local barbers.

“I’m f*cked,” he told us.

“I can’t even go into the f*cking barber shop now. I’m barred,” he said.

Meanwhile, a woman who only gave the first name ‘Mary’ told us she was Aivaras’s fiancée – and claimed he can no longer walk down the streets of Fermoy since his conviction.

“I’m his fiancée. I need to get his side of the story out. He can’t even walk down the street anymore and he’s being called names.”

An angered Aivaras, who openly posed for pictures for The Irish Mirror, also insisted:

“Why would I touch the child’s hand? I don’t even want to touch your hand,” he told us.

“I’m not so f*cking silly or stupid.

“I came out for two beers. Maybe not even drunk,” he said of the day in question.

“Why I need to say to could hello sexy boy? F*cking why? I’m not stupid. Everyone knows me,” he said.

“If I something doing wrong, why am I not in jail? C’mon. This is f*cking serious. This is no joke,” he said.

“This is something happened one and a half year ago.”

Aivaras went on to say that perhaps the woman did not properly understand what he had said to her.

“Maybe she don’t understand what I say. Maybe she understand something different.

“I just say ‘Hi, I want to pass. Everyone say on the road hi. Everybody can say hi. This is not bad,” he said.

His fiancée Mary added:

“He just said ‘Hi, little young man’. That’s what he said to me on the phone. Next thing he was all over Facebook and TikTok.

Despite his claims Aivaras was convicted by the court of threatening and abusive behaviour after it accepted an account of the facts as told by the mother of the child.

Court presenter Inspector Tony O’Sullivan told Fermoy District Court that the boy was walking with his mother along Lower Cork Street in Mitchelstown, Co. Cork on April 20, 2023 when the incident occurred.

Giving evidence, the boy’s mother told the court that it was a sunny day and she was walking along the busy street at about 3pm with her son who was holding her hand.

She told the court that someone came up behind them and “tugged” at her son.

She said that she told him to leave her son alone at which point Aivaras raised his hands and said: “I just say hi sexy boy.”

The boy’s mother said that she was in shock at what had happened and called her brother to come and pick them up.

Soon afterwards she met her sister who was walking along the same street and she told her what happened.

The boy’s aunt told the court that when she met her sister she was crying and very upset at what had happened. She said that she just “saw red” and went after Mr Dvaranauskas to take a photo of him on her phone.

She said that when she saw him coming out of the Dealz store in Mitchelstown, he smelled of alcohol.

Aivaras’s defence counsel said the accused was denying calling the child sexy.

Judge Colm Roberts told the court : “I can’t see how trying to take a child away from someone is not threatening. It’s quite clear that his mother was shocked and upset.

“This is a young child we are talking about. Mr Dvaranauskas probably had drink taken and probably didn’t known what he was doing but that doesn’t make the impact of his behaviour any less.”

The court heard that Aivaras had 11 previous convictions and worked for a car valet outlet as well as for a local farmer.

Judge Roberts convicted him of threatening and abusive behaviour and sentenced him to one month in prison, suspended for two years.

The sentence was suspended on condition that Aivaras stays away from the woman and her child and remains sober in public.
