Man with no criminal history pleads guilty to series of thefts

A JUDGE agreed that it was most unusual to see a 43-year-old man without a criminal history coming before the court for a series of thefts, all committed in the month of May.

Angus Climent, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to several offences at Cork District Court.

Defence solicitor Eddie Burke suggested it was most unusual for a man of that age with almost no previous convictions to come to court pleading guilty to these offences.

Judge Mary Dorgan said: “Yes, but he had a very active May. As I keep saying, these shops are taking a hit all the time and are not victimless crimes.

“Worse was the theft of the Orchard Thieves cider. He would want to stay away from the cider.”

The judge agreed to adjourn sentencing until October 9 to give the defendant a chance to gather compensation.

Angus Clement pleaded guilty to the following offences: May 6 at Michael Guiney’s, Oliver Plunkett Street, shoplifting; May 10 at Raven Bar Liberty Street, theft of a keg of Orchard Thieves cider valued €135; May 12 at Elvery’s Sports, Oliver Plunkett Street, theft of clothing; May 14 at Lidl, Cornmarket Street, shoplifting; and May 31 at Castle Street, intoxication.
