EXCLUSIVE: Mariana Treviño (Club de Cuervos, A Man Called Otto) will star opposite Owen Wilson in the Untitled Golf Comedy Series from Jason Keller as a series regular. Marc Maron and Peter Dager also star.
From Apple Studios, the untitled comedy stars Wilson as Pryce Cahill, an over-the-hill, ex-pro golfer whose career was derailed prematurely 20 years ago. After he gets fired from his job at an Indiana sporting goods store and his wife walks out on him, Pryce hedges his bets entirely on a troubled 17-year-old golf phenom, played by Dager.
Treviño will play “Elena,” mother of the 17-year-old golf phenom.
The untiled series will be directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris (Fleishman is in Trouble, Little Miss Sunshine), and executive produced by Propagate Content’s Ben Silverman (The Office), Howard T. Owens and Rodney Ferrell, Entertainment 360’s Guymon Casady (Ripley, The Fall Guy), Piece of Work’s Lee Eisenberg and Natalie Sandy, Chris Moynihan, Keller and Wilson. Bill Callahan also serves as executive producer.
Treviño is gearing up to reprise her role from the hit musical Mentiras in the eponymous mini-series. She was also most recently seen in Marc Forester’s A Man Called Otto opposite Tom Hanks. Before that, she starred in Overboard opposite Eugenio Derbez and Anna Faris; in Jose Maria Yazpik’s Polvo, which earned her an Ariel nomination; and in Manolo Caro’s comedy classic Perfect Strangers. On the TV side, she can be seen as the titular character in Cecilia, the female lead in the popular LatAm Netflix soccer show Club De Cuervos, and recurring roles in Netflix’s La Casa De Las Flores and Narcos: Mexico.
