Martin Lewis issues shopping warning to anyone planning trip abroad
Martin Lewis has issued a sharp reminder to all holidaymakers eying an overseas spree to think twice before they splash out here in the UK. In his latest advice column on MoneySavingExpert.com, Mr Lewis highlighted a smart shopping tactic for travellers set on indulging in some retail therapy.
He said: “If you’re among the millions contemplating a trip to Spain this summer, halt your Zara purchases immediately.” First formed in 2014 and now updated with current insights, the post underscores just how much can be saved by simply waiting until you hit Spanish soil to shop.
Zara, Spain’s flagship fashion retailer, notoriously tags its items at significantly lower prices domestically compared to what you’ll find on UK racks. Accordingly, savvy shoppers would do well to delay their retail therapy until they are in Spain.

A price breakdown between Zara goods in Spain, France, Greece and Italy shows substantial markdowns, particularly when comparing blazers, frocks, and kids’ wear. You might reckon on saving about £30 in many instances, reports Wales Online.
Referring to a comparison table accessible here, Mr Lewis elaborates: “So from this small sample, it shows that on average prices are 31 percent cheaper in Spain and Greece than the UK, 14 percent cheaper in France and Italy.” He further notes: “The price difference is enormous.
“The pound price is often higher than the euro price before you even convert the currency (which further cheapens the euro price).”
