Maura Derrane’s embarrassing Galway farm incident as RTE star left red faced
RTÉ star Maura Derrane found herself in a spot of bother as she showed her family around her home turf during a well-deserved break from her TV hosting duties.
The Aran Islands woman will be returning to RTÉ’s Today show with Daithí Ó Sé in September after a few months of rest and relaxation.
It’s tough to see how relaxing the holiday will end up being after a recent video shared by Maura showed her laughing along with her son Cal as she tried and failed to squeeze through the bars on a gate.

The glamorous Galwya woman did her best to make it through to no avail, explaining on Instagram that she was with her family walking in the area where she had grown up.
“Showing Cal around some of the fields where I used to hang out with my sisters when I was a child on Inis Mór. Obviously it’s not today or yesterday,” Maura wrote.
“I used to slither through these gates like a snake God help me, I had convinced myself I could still do it, and also wanted to prove to Cal that it was possible. How wrong I was!”
Maura made it halfway through the gate, with Cal laughing away as he held the camera. “Absolutely brilliant. Fair play. He got some laugh out of that,” one of Maura’s followers wrote in the comments.
“I think he was having a great laugh at your expense Maura,” another said, while one follower complimented Maura’s figure by saying that she “almost made it”.
In the video Maura can be heard joking “I’ve only got one good hand,” as she tries to manoeuvre herself through the bars. Last month the star was on her way to RTE when she fell and broke her wrist in an unfortunate accident.
After falling, Maura got an ice pack and some painkillers but that didn’t do the trick and she sought some more advice on treatment.
As it turns out, she fractured her wrist twice. Taking to her Instagram, she shared how the incident happened: “It just shows you how easy it is. It was the simplest trip. I just slid in my heels, came downstairs, turned a corner and fell down. I didn’t think I’d broken it, I really didn’t.”
