Meet the village cricketer who took 10 wickets for 1 run

In an interview on the Cricket Yorkshire Podcast, Sam Potter of Eryholme Cricket Club, chats about his extraordinary performance where he scored 50 with the bat then bagged all 10 wickets for just one run against Spennithorne & Harmby.

The home side were bundled out for 18 to lose by 108 runs.

🎤 PODCAST EPISODE: 10 for 1 run (7 mins 25)

What adds another layer to this story is that, according to Eryholme’s captain Simon Warne, the village club was about a week away from folding in 2018, after having to concede the first few games of the season.

A side of eight players soldiered on in the bottom division of the Darlington & District Cricket Cricket League. Fast forward to 2024 and they have two Saturday teams with the firsts in Division A and the seconds winning Division C last year in their first season.

There’s also the midweek side, featured here, in the Wensleydale Cricket League. They are always on the lookout for players. You can email Simon, their club Chair on [email protected] or visit their Play-Cricket website.

(Although it sounds as if they have the bowling covered!)

Congratulations to Sam on a terrific bowling performance that will be the best in the country this year.
