Meghan Markle’s ESPY dress sparks confusion as fashion brand release statement

Meghan Markle’s ESPY dress has sparked confusion as a fashion brand released a puzzling statement.

There were conflicting reports regarding the designer for the Duchess of Sussex’s dress that she wore to accompany Prince Harry to the ESPY Awards.

People Magazine, which has a strong relationship with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, reported the dress to be a custom Oscar de la Renta design.

Prince Harry and Meghan have often conducted exclusive interviews with the publication, showing their respect for the organisation, as opposed to the majority of UK-based media companies.

While Meghan’s dress was initially reported as being from Oscar de la Renta, representatives from the brand Staud took the unusual step of confirming the dress was created by their design director.

The Staud dress they were referring to originally cost £415, however, it has since been reduced to £290 as Sussex fans flooded to the website to buy the garment.

The price reduction would also be a sign that Meghan, 42, wore Staud’s design to watch the Duke of Sussex accept the Pat Tillman Award.

The social media account What Meghan Wore issued the following statement: “Meghan’s dress was reported to be by Oscar de la Renta per People Magazine.

“However, we also received confirmation that the dress is by Staud – from the Spring 2024 collection.”

Vogue, which specialises in reporting fashion, also believed the dress to be a Staud creation, saying: “[Meghan] joined Harry (who was being presented with the Pat Tillman Award for Service) on the red carpet wearing a backless white dress by Staud.”

The duchess’s white backless dress was reminiscent of her Stella McCartney wedding reception gown from 2018.

It was seen by many Sussex fans as a sweet nod to the couple’s joyous wedding day.

To accessorise, Meghan wore a £2,658 diamond loop ring.

The mother-of-two first wore the accessory in 2022 for the Invictus Games in The Hague.

Meghan’s earrings were her Lorraine Schwartz emerald diamond stud earrings, first seen at Trooping the Colour and the Lion King premiere, both in 2019.

She also wore her Cartier “Love” bracelet, while Prince Harry chose an Armani suit for the evening.
