Three kayakers were transported to University Hospital Kerry – some by helicopter – after ending up in the water while kayaking at Lough Leane last night.

It is understood the vessel capsized at the Tomies side, on the western portion of Lough Leane, and rescue services congregated on the ground at the Europe Hotel.

Gardai and Valentia Coastguard confirmed to The Kerryman that all three individuals, males, were taken to hospital following the dramatic incident and are recovering.

Valentia Coastguard said that the alarm was raised with them at approximately 10pm, and emergency services including fire service personnel and Shannon Rescue Helicopter 115 were tasked to the scene.

The Kerryman understands that at least two of the individuals rescued were transported to UHK by the rescue helicopter. The other individual is understood to have made it to shore and raised the alarm.
