Men’s Tennis signs Sebastian Gorzny – University of Texas Athletics

Austin, Texas – Texas Men’s Tennis has signed Sebastian Gorzny to an Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA), head coach Bruce Berque announced Friday. A transfer from TCU who will be an ITA All-American in doubles this year, is a two-time second-team All-Big 12 honoree and was the 2023 Big 12 Freshman of the Year, Gorzny will join the Longhorns as a junior with two years of eligibility remaining.

“We are thrilled Sebastian will be a Longhorn for the last two years of his collegiate career,” Berque said. “We know from experience that he is an exceptional player, and he has won at every level of his tennis career. Getting to know him better during the last week, we have also learned that he is very passionate about his tennis and his long-term goals in the sport. We are looking forward to him joining our team and being able to help him reach those goals in both college and professional tennis.”

“I’m excited to become a Longhorn and for the athletic and academic opportunities at the University of Texas,” Gorzny said. “I’m looking forward to what the next two years will bring and can’t wait to get started.”

A native of Austin, Gorzny registered a 37-10 overall singles record and was 27-6 in dual matches, while recording a 44-14 overall doubles record, including 32-10 in dual match play in his two seasons at TCU. In that time, Gorzny helped TCU win the 2024 NCAA National Championship and the 2023 ITA National Indoor Championship.

Despite missing a month and a half from late March to early May due to injury this past season, Gorzny posted a 16-7 overall record in singles, including 10-4 in dual matches, during which he played mostly at No. 4. He closed team play by earning spots on the NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team at No. 5 singles and No. 2 doubles. He also finished ranked No. 67 in singles after reaching a high of No. 30 coming out of fall play.

In doubles, Gorzny compiled a 24-7 overall record with a 14-3 mark in dual matches. He and Pedro Vives earned a 5-8 seed in the NCAA Doubles Championship, which qualified them as ITA All-Americans, and they went on to reach the Round of 16. The duo was also second-team All-Big 12 and finished ranked No. 14 nationally but reached as high as No. 2 during the season. Gorzny and Vives combined for an 18-6 record, were semifinalists at the ITA National Fall Championships and claimed the ITA Texas Regionals title. TCU shifted its doubles lineup toward the end of the dual match season, and Gorzny paired with Jack Pinnington for the last six contests.

The Big 12 Freshman of the Year in 2023, Gorzny led TCU in dual match singles and doubles victories, going 17-2 and 18-7, respectively. Overall, in 2022-23 he was 21-3 in singles, winning his first 13 matches in dual match play, along with going 20-7 in doubles. He closed at No. 84 in the singles rankings after reaching a season high of No. 63, while concluding the season at No. 82 in doubles with a high of No. 73. With TCU winning the ITA National Indoor Championship, Gorzny was named to the All-Tournament team at No. 5 singles and No. 3 doubles.

Prior to TCU, Gorzny won the 2022 Wimbledon Junior Doubles Championship and advanced to the third round of the main singles draw. He also earned a wild card into the main doubles draw at the 2022 U.S. Open. He achieved a career-high juniors ranking of No. 38 that year and was rated as high as the No. 3 prospect in the country by TennisRecruiting.net.
