Met Éireann issues three rain warnings as miserable July continues

Met Éireann has issued three separate status yellow warnings with “persistent and heavy” rain expected in many parts of the country.

The first rain warning is in place for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Tipperary and Waterford and will remain in effect until 4pm.

A second warning for Kildare, Laois, Offaly and Wicklow is in place until midnight on Wednesday. A third warning is in place until 4am on Wednesday and it will impact Cavan, Monaghan, Dublin, Kildare, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wicklow, Leitrim and Roscommon.

Met Éireann said rain in the affected counties would become persistent and heavy at times. The potential impacts include localised flooding, difficult travelling conditions and poor visibility.

Meanwhile, western coastal counties will stay mainly dry on Tuesday, while it will become mainly dry in Munster this evening.

More generally, Wednesday will be mostly cloudy over much of the northern half of the country “with further outbreaks of rain and drizzle”. It will be brighter further south with some sunny spells and temperatures of 17C to 20C.

Met Éireann has said Thursday “will be mostly cloudy at first with some patchy light rain or drizzle. It will brighten up with sunny spells developing and a few showers in the east.”

Heading into the weekend, it will be drier and sunnier but there will still be a few showers. Temperatures are likely to hit highs of 18C or 19C.
