MHSAA girls tennis finals: Okemos’ Isabelle Hult finishes as state runner-up
Isabelle Hult finished as a state runner-up while helping the Okemos girls tennis team finished tied for 11th at the Division 1 finals with eight points on Saturday.
Hult was the runner-up at No, 2 singles, falling to top seed Sydney Geisz of Clarkston 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Hult won her second round, quarterfinal and semifinal matches in straight sets to reach the championship round.
Isabella Portnoy (No. 1 singles) and the No. 4 doubles team of Bryden Sanders and Sarah Hampton each reached the quarterfinals at their flights for Okemos.
DIVISION 4
Lansing Catholic had six points while placing 11th at the state finals. Mariana Prieto made the quarterfinals at No. 2 singles for Lansing Catholic before falling to the eventual state champion Ellie Kim of Ann Arbor Greenhills. Abby Frank made the quarterfinals at No. 3 singles
Lakewood finished with a point at the finals.
DIVISION 2
East Lansing finished with six points while finishing tied for 12th at the state finals. DeWitt finished with five points.
The best showing for East Lansing came from its No. 2 doubles flight of Erika Stokstad and Elsa Elhenicky, which made it to the quarterfinals before falling to the eventual state champion tandem of Lauren Jaklitsch and Morgan McKenzie of Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern.
DeWitt’s Courtney Novak reached the quarterfinals at No. 2 singles.
DIVISION 3
St. Johns finished with four points to lead the area teams at the state finals. Mason had three points and Haslett had two.
Caroline Parsons and Emersyn Sturgis reached the quarterfinals at No. 4 doubles to lead St. Johns.
Mason had junior Gabby Hanover reach the quarterfinals at No. 1 singles.
