More than 2,000 homes in Cork to lose water supply for a time this evening

Due to essential mains replacement works, more than 2,000 homes and businesses across Cork city will be without water for a period this evening.

The outage comes into effect from 10.30pm, and will continue until 2.30am tomorrow.

It will impact up to 2,100 customers on the northside of the city.

It comes as Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Cork City Council, works to replace more than 1.1km of old cast iron water mains located on Popham’s Road, in a bid to address leakage and discolouration reports.

The body has advised customers of the ongoing works, which are a part of the National Leakage Reduction Programme.

Warning

Uisce Éireann has warned that impacted homes and businesses may experience low water pressure, temporary water discolouration, or intermittent disruptions to their water supply during this outage period.

Customers in the affected areas are also advised to not programme dishwashers or washing machines for late night use.

The impacted areas will include Parklands, Larchfield, Park Dale, Park Close, Parkwood Close, Geaney’s Boreen, Ashwood Close, Rowanville, Oakville Drive, Onslow Gardens, Dierville, Beechwood Grove, Fairfield Avenue, Russell Court, Pophams Road, Rathpeacon Road, Kilnap Place, St Michael’s Road, St Colman’s Road, St Brendan’s Road, Commons Road, Mount Cara, The Priory, Seminary Court, The Lawn, Redemption Road, Lovers Walk, Seminary Place, Blackpool Shopping Centre. and the surrounding areas.

The programme manager at Uisce Éireann, Jack Cronin, said that every effort will be made to reduce the impact of these works on homes and businesses and to restore the water supply as quickly as possible.

“We would like to thank the community in advance for their patience and co-operation,” he said.

Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann will receive direct communications for planned and unplanned outages which last for more than four hours.
