Multiple weekend crashes caused by “Mormon Cricket sludge”

EUREKA COUNTY, Nev. (KOLO) – Authorities in Eureka County, Nevada had a busy weekend as they responded to a series of crashes they blamed on the rain and on what they called “Mormon Cricket sludge.”

On Saturday, members of the Eureka County Sheriff’s Office, Eureka County Fire, Eureka County EMS, Carlin Fire, and Nevada State Police responded to multiple crashes on the interstate.

In June of last year, the Nevada Department of Transportation issued a warning that swarms of the bugs gathering on highways could create adverse driving conditions.

The Eureka County Sheriff’s Office is now asking people to slow down and use caution, and to allow emergency vehicles space to work.
