Mystery of loads of Offaly bucket hats at the Tour De France

Watching today’s stage of the Tour de France as Tadej Pogacar powered to victory in the Pyrenees, we were struck by something very Offaly at the side of the road.

As the riders climbed to the finish of Stage 14, an Offaly bucket hat (pictured above) was spotted at the side of the road.

Now one Offaly bucket hat at the side of the road in the mountains in the south of France might not be unusual but closer to the finish, there were a group of people at the side of the road in the distinctive green, white and gold hats.

Maybe there were that many Offaly people on the climb wearing the same hats but that seems unlikely.

If it was not a load of Offaly people enjoying the Tour de France, it begs the question, where in the South of France or the North of Spain, or maybe Andorra, is there a team with the same colours as Offaly?

Answers on a postcard… actually it’s not the 1980s anymore so answers via email to news@offalyexpress.ie
