National champion A&M women’s tennis team to be honored Tuesday

The Texas A&M women’s tennis team, which won the national championship earlier this month, will be honored in a Tuesday celebration at the Jackie Sherrill Lettermen’s Club by the school’s athletic department.

The celebration, which is open to the public, will start at 3 p.m. with the team recognition to begin at 3:15 p.m. with refreshments to follow. The public may park in the University Center Garage or the Gene Stallings Garage.

The Aggies beat Georgia 4-1 in the title match. Junior Mary Stoiana, the nation’s top-ranked player, was the tournament’s most valuable player and joining her on the all-tournament singles team were teammates Carson Branstine, Nicole Khirin and Lucciana Perez.

Texas A&M women’s tennis head coach Mark Weaver and junior Mary Stoiana answer questions fresh off claiming the program’s first national title, from the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
