LAS VEGAS – Bryce McGowens helped lead the Portland Trail Blazers to an 82-80 win over the Washington Wizards in an NBA 2K25 Summer League battle at Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas on Tuesday night. The third-year guard turned in a highly efficient performance from the foul line, including a key free throw in the closing seconds.

The first half portended the type of wire-to-wire battle the game would prove to be, with the Blazers holding a thin 39-38 lead at intermission. Portland expanded its advantage by another five points in the third, but the Wizards opened the final period on a 10-0 run, setting the tone for the fourth quarter. Washington hung within three 13 seconds from the finish, but McGowens made the second of two free-throw attempts, giving the Blazers a key four-point edge.

The Wizards, who shot just 33.3% overall, were led by Bub Carrington’s 20 points, which he complemented with five assists, four rebounds and one steal. Taylor Funk recorded 14 points and six rebounds. Justin Champagnie furnished 13 points, nine boards, two assists, three steals and two blocks.

McGowens’ 19 points, largely the byproduct of his 10-for-11 showing from the charity stripe, led the Trail Blazers. Ryan Rupert registered 16 points, four rebounds and two assists. Kennedy Chandler supplied 12 points, five boards, two assists and one steal.

The Wizards face off with the Sacramento Kings on Thursday night, while the Trail Blazers tangle with the Charlotte Hornets on Friday night.
