Luka Doncic’s Dallas Mavericks, meanwhile, entered the Western Conference playoffs as the fifth seeds but managed to upset fourth seeds LA Clippers, top seeds Oklahoma City Thunder and third seeds Minnesota Timberwolves in the playoffs to win the division.

No fifth-seeded team has ever won the NBA Finals to date. The Mavericks will be playing their first NBA Final in 13 years after clinching their maiden and only title in 2011 after beating the Miami Heat 4-2.
