Nebraska men’s basketball guard Connor Essegian to play for Armenian national team

Connor Essegian will play in two games for the Armenian national team this summer, the Nebraska guard announced on Instagram.

Essegian, whose paternal grandfather is 100% Armenian, will join the team for its games in Los Angeles against Guatemala and Ireland on June 21 and 23.

This will be the second straight summer Essegian has played for Team Armenia. He competed in the Armenian Basketball Classic in June 2023, also in Los Angeles, scoring 14 points on 4-for-10 shooting against France.

It’s also the second year in a row Nebraska has players on international teams. Keisei Tominaga and Rienk Mast played for the Japanese and Dutch national teams respectively last summer.

Essegian spent his first two college seasons at Wisconsin, where he averaged 7.6 points per game and shot 34.5% from 3-point range. He announced his transfer to Nebraska in April.
