New clothes shop to open in struggling city centre shopping area

A new designer clothes shop will soon open on a Nottingham shopping street that has long been hindered by the Broadmarsh saga. Metro Nottingham will open its new Middle Pavement store in Nottingham city centre on Monday, July 1, according to advertisements put in the shop front’s window.

It will take over the retail unit only recently vacated by Lacoste seller Mint Duck, which moved to Bridlesmith Gate around the corner on Saturday, June 1. Like its predecessor, the new shop will sell designer clothing, including brands Stone Island, CP company, Palm Angels, Moncler, Gucci, and Burberry.

Liam Stanhope, who owns Metro Nottingham and its partner store in Grantham, is currently buying items to stock the new store, which he said hoped would be “Nottingham’s go-to” for designer labels. “We’re going to try and get all of the best jackets in for you. Please come in July 1 and support us,” he added in a promotional video.

The new business will prevent the shopfront becoming another vacant unit on Middle Pavement, which has suffered from the knock on impacts of the closure of the Broadmarsh shopping centre. While Lister Gate has been decimated by the saga surrounding what to do with the half-demolished centre following intu’s collapse in 2020, nearby Low and Middle Pavement have also suffered with many venues and eateries closing over recent years.

Metro Nottingham will hope to contribute to the area’s revival as Nottingham City Council’s masterplan to transform the Broad Marsh site with new homes, offices and green spaces progresses. On Metro Fashion’s website a representative said the business aimed to “revolutionize the fashion industry,” by creating a more sustainable, ethical, and inclusive future for fashion.

The site adds: “We’re committed to offering high-quality, sustainable clothing that lasts. Our products are made from eco-friendly materials and manufactured using ethical practices. We’re proud to offer a range of styles that are both fashionable and sustainable.”
