A new initiative to spark memories and conversations in people living with Alzheimer’s and dementia is being piloted in nursing homes across Cork.
‘Music and Memory’ boxes contain vintage photographs of the city, books, and music the residents would have listened to when they were younger.
Executive Librarian at the Rory Gallagher Music Library in Cork Margaret O’Sullivan came up with the idea:
“People that have memory loss are not going to be able to remain connected in the present time, it goes back in time. So, rather than us trying to force them to come forward. I thought best to take it back and go back to when they can remember.”
