Golfweek Best, the popular golf magazine, yearly list of Best Private Golf Courses 2024 from state to state named 14 top private golf courses from New Jersey.

These courses were rated and evaluated by 800 of GolfWeek’s international panel of raters on 10-point criteria and met certain requirements such as routing and overall land plan. And since these are private, daily-fees or resort play are not offered.

  1. Pine Valley Golf Course is at 1 E Atlantic Ave., Pine Hill, in Camden. The private golf course was established in 1913 and sits on 184 acres of rolling, sandy ground deep in the Pinelands.
  2. Somerset Hills Country Club is at 180 Mine Mount Road in Bernardsville. This private 18-hole golf course was built in the 1918 and features 140 slopes.
  3. Plainfield Country Club is at 1591 Woodland Ave. in Edison. Built in 1921 this private golf course features 18-holes with 138 slopes.
  4. Baltusrol Golf Club (Lower) is at 201 Shunpike Road in Springfield Township. This private 36-hole golf course history dates back to 1895 and is known for two championship golf courses: Lower and Upper.
  5. Hollywood Golf Course is at 510 Roseld Ave. in Deal. The private, member-owned, family-friendly club established primarily for the enjoyment of its members, their guests and children. It covers 7,040 yards and is complemented by two golf practice ranges.
  6. Ridgewood Country Club (Championship) is at 96 W Midland Ave. in Paramus. The private championship course is a relatively straightforward par-4 playing 375 yards from the championship tees and has a relatively generous landing space for tee shots.
  7. Baltusrol Golf Club (Upper) is at 201 Shunpike Road in Springfield Township and is a private 36-hole golf club. The Upper is synonymous with championship golf and is the other half of championship courses.
  8. Galloway National Golf Club is at 270 South New York Road in Galloway Township. The private, 18-hole championship golf course stretches 7,000 yards on a 200-acre tract of heavily wooded, gently sloping bayside property.
  9. Bayonne Golf Club is at 1 Lefante Way in Bayonne. This unique private waterfront golf course was built in 2006 and sits on 150-acres across the Hudson River.
  10. Mountain Ridge Country Club is located at 713 Passaic Ave. in West Caldwell. Open to play since 1912, this private 18-hole elite golf course stretches 7,100 Yards over 280 Acres.
  11. Essex County Country Club is located at 350 Mt. Pleasant Ave. in West Orange. Established in 1887, this private club is New Jersey’s first country club and is known for a perfect combination of serious golf in a family environment.
  12. Hidden Creek is at 75 Asbury Road in Egg Harbor Township. This private golf course was built in 2002 and covers 750 acres of aged woodlands and features 18-hole course with a par of 71, length of 7,023 yards and a slope of 143.
  13. Ridge at Back Brook is at 211 Wertsville Road in Ringoes. This private course has a world-class design, perfect conditions and fine practice facilities.
  14. Trump National is at 900 Lamington Road in Bedminster. It’s known for championship golf, superior service and award-winning facilities in an incomparable, exclusive setting.
