New owners for the g Hotel – Connacht Tribune – Galway City Tribune

One of Galway’s best-known hotels, the ‘g’, has been sold to the owners of the former Jury’s Inn.

The Leonardo group has purchased the Renmore hotel within a year of the Choice Hotel group completing a million-euro refurbishment.

The chain, owned by Israeli billionaire David Fattal, is keeping the name and branding for the five-star hotel designed by London-based milliner Philip Treacy from Ahascragh in North Galway.

Opened to much fanfare at the height of the Celtic Tiger in 2005 by maths teacher-turned developer Gerry Barrett, it was later bought by investment firm Alanis Capital for a reputed €40m.

Mr Barrett’s property portfolio included Ashford Castle and the Meyrick Hotel, now rebranded The Hardiman, but €778m of his loans were taken over by NAMA (National Asset Management Agency), who sold on most it for just €97m to Deutsche Bank.

The Hardiman and House Hotel are still being run by the Choice Hotel group, which has invested huge sums into each.

The Leonardo group bought the former Jurys Inn chain in Ireland in 2017. The g Hotel brand joins joining the Leonardo Limited Edition collection of individually branded hotels, which includes The Dilly, London, The Grand, Brighton, Hotel Gotham, Manchester and The Midland, Manchester.
