NFL analyst suggests New York Giants trade for former first-round pick | Sporting News
The New York Giants need to add as many weapons as possible to surround quarterback Daniel Jones if the offense is going to be bounce back in 2024.
While the Giants used the No. 6 pick on LSU’s Malik Nabers, there is always room to add more talent to the wide receiver room.
Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report suggested the Giants should sent a 2025 sixth-round pick to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for former first-rounder Treylon Burks.
Rookie Malik Nabers figures to be their No. 1 receiver. Darius Slayton would be the No. 2 option, but he’s currently sitting out OTAs while he works on a new contract with the G-Men.
There are many young options the Giants hope will hit big this season. Adding Burks would give them another body type with potential in the room. At 6’2″, 225 pounds, the former Razorback is much bigger than the likes of Wan’Dale Robinson (5’8″, 185) and Jalin Hyatt (6’0″, 185).
Burks would still have to fight for reps and targets, but the competition would be a lot lighter in New York.
If the Giants wanted to bring Burks in as a big-slot option, it would at least be intriguing. But if they wanted to continue what the Titans have done—keeping Burks on the outside—then it would likely be a futile endeavor.
Burks has intriguing size, athleticism and abilities after the catch. The Giants certainly could use that. But he hasn’t made the necessary strides as a route runner to be a true difference maker and there have been questions about his health since entering the league.
It likely won’t happen, but if the Giants had a clear plan to make Burks a big-slot, it might be worth a late-round pick.
