NFL fans rave about Netflix’s ‘Receiver’ but Swifties are disappointed
Delighted NFL fans are already raving about new Netflix show ‘Receiver’ after it dropped on Wednesday.
The streamer’s follow-up to its smash hit ‘Quarterback’ follows five of the best pass catchers in the NFL.
Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings, Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders, Amon-Ra St. Brown of the Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers teammates George Kittle and Deebo Samuel were all filmed last season.
The show follows the highs and lows of their seasons, which ended in Super Bowl heartache for the 49ers pair.
Episodes arrived on Netflix and has already won a legion of fans as they started to devour the series.
Taking to social media, one wrote: ‘Overall I think Receiver is more fun than Quarterback.
‘The St Brown parents are great, Kittle seems like a great due, Adams’ and Deebo’s frustration was really compelling.
‘But at the end it kinda did the same thing Quarterback did which is turn into a vanilla season recap.’
Another viewer wrote: ‘Dude, just finished watching RECEIVERS and I’m still reeling from the intensity!
‘The way those characters were woven together was masterful. Kittle’s performance still has me shook’.
‘First episode is really good,’ commented another fan while another posted: ‘It’s great so far’.
Unfortunately, not every NFL fan was on board and one insisted HBO rival Hard Knocks is ‘better’.
Another group of fans who were left underwhelmed were Swifties after Travis Kelce turned down the chance to appear in the series.
Kelce does briefly appear when talking to George Kittle at February’s Super Bowl but the Kansas City Chiefs star rejected a starring role.
Kelce was approached about the show after his teammate Patrick Mahomes appeared in the 2023 series Quarterback.
‘After [Patrick Mahomes] did [Quarterback], I did get asked about it,’ Kelce said during an interview on Bussin’ with the Boys last month.
‘I just — I don’t know. I’d rather just play ball, man,’ he went on.
‘I’m already doing enough with the podcast and everything. I’m way over the reality s*** dude. I’m out on that s***.’
It means Swifities who are tuning in to catch some behind the scenes footage of Kelce and Swift together will be disappointed.
One wrote on X: ‘Is there enough taycontent for me to watch the receiver on Netflix?’
Another added: ‘Which episode of the receiver is Travis in?’
Kelce is now back on US soil, and straight back to work on the set of Grotesquerie, after posing for a photo with one of his co-stars in Hollywood.
The Chiefs superstar has been flying around Europe and taking in his girlfriend’s Eras Tour shows for the past few weeks, but he now appears to be back home.
Fellow Grotesquerie actor Larry McGee posted a snap to Instagram on Tuesday, showing Kelce smiling as he looked dapper in a rare fitted outfit.
