Nomad Launches Essential Power Accessory: 65W Adapter With Apple Watch Charger

Nomad is one of those reliably good brands that always seems to deliver. It’s just announced a new charging plug. I’ve been testing it for the past week or so and it’s tremendous, especially when you’re travelling.

You know the scenario: your luggage already has almost every cubic inch spoken for. So, how many chargers do you need to pack to ensure your phone, laptop, tablet and Apple Watch are all going to be perky and ready to go at all times?

Maybe you only need one. The 65W Power Adapter Apple Watch Edition has dual USB-C sockets, which means pretty much anything can be plugged into it. The 65W refers to the total output, which means that if you’re only charging one item, it has that much power at its disposal.

The top port can handle 45W when the other socket is occupied, so that’s the best for your laptop, and the bottom port maxes out at 20W. Which is more than enough for the iPhone or iPad, for instance.

But supposing you have an Apple Watch as well, and you’d like to charge that at the same time? On the top of the charger is an Apple Watch charging puck—and it’s a fast-charge puck at that—where you can place the Watch as well.

It works best when plugged into the wall but a charger which means the Watch puck has to sit horizontally instead of vertically also works well.

If you don’t have an Apple Watch, by the way, there’s also a version without the puck, as well as other dual-output and single-output chargers ranging from 20W up to 130W.

There’s more convenience in the prongs which fold flat out of the way, saving more space in the device.

Are there any downsides? Well, if you want the Apple Watch in NightStand mode, where the clock is shown as it’s charging, then you’ll need to plug the Watch in via USB-C in the conventional way. And it’s not cheap: $100 or £100 in the U.K.

But this is a well-built, attractive, capable charger that does a lot and does it very effectively. Available from nomadgoods.com.
