North Cork road scheme expected to finish ‘within budget and before time’

The Mayor of County Cork has predicted that a major road improvement scheme in north Cork will finish “within budget and before time”.

Frank O’Flynn, whose term as county mayor is coming to a close this month after the local and European elections, spoke to The Echo after visiting the N73 Annakisha Road Improvement Scheme.

He has received a progress update from project officials.

The scheme covers a 3.8km section of the N73 national secondary route between Mallow and Mitchelstown, from the junction of the N72 and N73 at Oliver’s Cross to the east of Mallow Town to the junction of the N73 and L1332 to the North of Skenakilla Cross.

Works are scheduled to continue until Wednesday, December 4.

Mr O’Flynn said the road improvement scheme had received a budget allocation of €9.1 and represents a major step forward in improving connectivity and safety along the route.

“They’re making great progress and they’re ahead of schedule, so they should finish within budget and before time,” he said.
