Northern issue ‘do not travel’ warning after major disruption
Northern has issued a “do not travel” warning after significant disruption was reported across the North West.
Trains between Liverpool Lime Street, Warrington and Manchester have been hit with cancellations this evening (Sunday) as people are advised not to travel. Northern said disruption is expected until the end of the day due to a member of train crew being unavailable, meaning fewer trains are able to run on all lines.
The travel chaos was also put down to a “short notice change to the timetable” affecting services across the North West and Cumbria. The train provider said all routes are subject to short notice alterations, cancellations or delays and additional replacement road transport will not be provided “due to a lack of available operators in the region”.

Northern tweeted on Sunday: “Customers travelling in the North West please be aware there is a do not not travel warning in place this evening due to significant disruption and cancellation, meaning later services will not be able to run.
“Please be advised that last services will now be earlier and train services will not be replaced by buses. Please check your service, along with last services below.”
Elsewhere in the region, trains have been cancelled between Shipley and Guiseley following a landslip in February. Urgent repairs are also being carried out between New Mills Central and Chinley.
Northern said tickets will be accepted for travel on board TransPennine Express services via any reasonable route in order for customers to complete their journey. Customers travelling on advanced purchase tickets can board any alternative Northern service via any reasonable route to complete their journey.
