Northumberland Plate horse numbers and runner-by-runner guide

1 TASHKHAN

NICE Tash. Big weight but has lots of classy form including when third in a French Group 1 in October. Stays well and could nick a place but looks a tall order to win with 9st 13lb.

2 YASHIN

HIN the mix. Jessica Harrington runners are always respected and he was less than three lengths behind Kyprios at Leopardstown last month. He ran a fair race in the Ebor off this mark and stays. Place prospects.

3 SPARTAN ARMY

ARMY firing. Saves his best form for the all-weather including when an excellent third in the Marathon here on all-weather championships Good Friday. Alan King’s horses are in solid nick and his staying power is assured. Chance off fair mark.

4 ZOFFEE

FEE may pay. Cracking second in the Chester Cup last time and won the consolation Vase for this race two years ago so trip and track are ideal. A 4lb rise looks fair and he comes here in excellent form.

5 ONESMOOTHOPERATOR

ONE may win one. From local Brian Ellison yard and ran well over this trip when second at Southwell last time. He was a bit unlucky there and the long straight will be ideal. Looks on a fair weight and won’t be far away.

6 TRUE LEGEND

BELIEVE in True. Improved for step up to 1m6f when second at Goodwood last time. Just a 3lb rise for that is fair and he’s won here before. Sir Mark Prescott is in fine form and he looks overpriced each-way.

7 TOO FRIENDLY

TOO much. Has winning form over 2m on the sand and has been in fair form on turf this season. Looks capable of better but must raise his game.

8 ZEALANDIA

ALL at Zea. Only 3lb higher than when winning a decent contest over course and distance in January. Better than his display in the Chester Cup last time but needs another personal best.

9 SPIRIT MIXER

IN the Mixer. Cracking second in this two years ago and right back to form with a solid third at Goodwood last time. Has come down weights and looks a huge price at a track that suits.

10 DUKE OF OXFORD

DUKE may reign. Solid sand performer who went close in red-hot marathon here on Good Friday. Back off the same mark after an unlucky run in the Chester Cup last time with every chance.

11 SOLENT GETAWAY

GETAWAY with it. Best run for a while when second over this trip at Haydock last time and 1lb rise is fair. Ran poorly on only visit here which is a negative.

12 GRAND PROVIDENCE

GRAND hope. Did well last season and was a close-up fifth in the Chester Cup last time. She’s back from the same mark and won her last outing on the all-weather. Should run another good race.

13 ISLAND BRAVE

BRAVE to back. Has won over course and distance but that was almost four years ago. Has struggled this season and hard to fancy.

14 TROOPER BISDEE

WHAT a Trooper. Impressive when winning a Pontefract marathon last time and has loads of staying power. Looks capable of much better for Sir Mark Prescott so a 5lb penalty isn’t a concern. Right in the mix.

15 EVALUATION

GOOD Valu. Lightly-raced and came back to his best when winning over this trip at Wolver last time. A 2lb rise is more than fair and he can figure for National winner Lucinda Russell.

16 HOWTH

HOW now. Solid fourth in the marathon here on Good Friday and is back from the same mark. Trainer Michael Appleby is in excellent form and he looks good value in the extra places market.

17 GOLDEN FLAME

FLAME out. Makes his debut for a new yard after losing his way for Charlie Johnston. Still looks pretty high in the weights.

18 FORZA ORTA

ORTA swerve. Dropped to 1lb above his excellent win over two miles at York last season after some modest efforts. Makes his all-weather debut here and needs to show his best on this surface.

19 RATHGAR

GAR wars. Wasn’t stopping when second over 1m6f at Thirsk last time and has the scope to improve over staying trips for Jack Channon. This is a sharp hike in class though and his price looks about right.

20 ARTISAN DANCER

ART attack. Has been running well enough without winning and was right there over 1m6f at Thirsk last time out. Needs to raise his game against this stronger opposition.
