‘Novak Djokovic Beats Young Talents on One Leg’ – WTA Star Exposes Tennis’ Sexism After Iga Swiatek Faces Flak for Being ‘Too Good’

Can you imagine Iga Swiatek getting slammed for dominating her opponents on the court and being too good? Such is the world we are living in. The Pole put on a magnificent display to outclass her opponents in the lead-up to her French Open title victory. Additionally, she inflicted a bagel on her opponents thrice in the tournament and lost just three games in the summit clash against Jasmine Paolini. However, German tennis legend, Andrea Petkovic, brought to light a grim fact making the rounds in the tennis world.

Despite Swiatek’s masterclass performances, she has been criticized by a section of fans for being too dominant, resulting in lop-sided matches. The World No. 1 stunned in her fourth-round match against Anastasia Potapova when she took just 40 minutes to defeat her 6-0 6-0. Even the final went barely over an hour as Swiatek defeated Paolini in 68 minutes with the scoreline of 6-2, 6-1.

However, Petkovic didn’t take these comments lightly and hit back at those fans calling out Swiatek, A thing that has not only made me unhappy but straight-up furious is the blatant misogyny that Iga Swiatek is facing for BEING TOO GOOD AT HER JOB. I never heard anybody complain when nearly forty-year-old Novak Djokovic beats young talents on one leg because he’s that good but when a woman cruises through the field suddenly WOMEN’s TENNIS IS BORING and Iga Swiatek is not good for tennis.”

Further, she went on to add, “Just a gentle reminder that Iga Swiatek was part of two matches this season already (vs Sabalenka in Madrid and vs Osaka last week) that will most likely end in the top 10 list of the best matches of the year.”

The World No. 1 can often be determined with close rankings and scores. But Iga Swiatek? Per live rankings, she currently stands at the top with 11695, while the the next two follow in th 7000s. The gap is big because Swiatek is unapologetically dominant, working hard to be the best.

Like her matches, Swiatek has been quite straight-forward in her responses during the interviews at Roland Garros as well. As a result, when a journalist asked her a bizarre question, she gave the perfect reply.

Iga Swiatek shuts down a journalist with a blunt response

A few days ago, Swiatek completed a hattrick of titles at the French Open by defeating Jasmine Paolini of Italy. Subsequently, during an interview, she was asked, “Would you mind sharing a way or two away from the court in which you find yourself wanting to be perfect?” However, Swiatek found the question strange as if she was undergoing a therapy.

She replied bluntly by saying, “We’re not in therapy so, sorry. When I talk about pressure, I usually put pressure on myself because of pressure of the outside. Obviously I’m a perfectionist, so there is always pressure, like, behind me.”

With the season quickly moving on to the grass courts, Swiatek will look to carry her form there. While she may not have the best of records on the green surface, Swiatek’s form makes her the favorite for the upcoming tournaments, including the Wimbledon Championships.
