One ball to win cricket mismatch in just over an hour
They’ve been playing cricket on the picturesque grounds of the Wedgwood estate for the past 80 years, but no one can remember a result quite quite like the one the local team suffered last weekend.
About 50 spectators had gathered in “absolutely glorious” sunshine to watch Wedgwood’s second XI take on Checkley second XI. “It was the perfect day for cricket,” Wedgwood’s club secretary, Gareth Copeland, said.
Unfortunately, it took Checkley just one legal delivery to win the match, much to the embarrassment of the home team, and the whole thing was over in little more than an hour — much to the disappointment of the spectators who had been banking on a little longer in the sunshine.
Few had been expecting a huge victory.
