O’Shea adds Shuttleworth to his Ireland backroom team

Republic of Ireland interim head coach John O’Shea has added Pete Shuttleworth to his backroom staff for the two matches against Hungary and Portugal.

Shuttleworth, who currently works as first-team coach at Birmingham City, joins the Ireland staff to replace Martin Doyle who is now working for the women’s national team.

The 45-year-old joined the group for this window and will support the coaching staff for the two international friendly fixtures against Hungary today at the Aviva Stadium (kick-off 7.45pm, live on RTÉ2) and Portugal in Aveiro next Tuesday.

“I’ve worked with Pete before at Birmingham City and always impressed with his skillset so it’s great that he has been able to come in for the two matches as part of the backroom team,” O’Shea said.

Shuttleworth, who worked alongside Wayne Rooney at Derby County, DC United in the MLS and at Birmingham City, says he is excited to get involved at international level.

“I’ve really enjoyed meeting up with the group since Thursday and honoured to be asked to join the backroom team for the two matches,” he said.

“It’s great to link back up with John. International football presents an exciting challenge and can’t wait for the matches.”
